Veronica Portrait, M.A./Special Education, Developmental Therapist
Veronica received her Bachelor of Arts in 1999 from St. John’s University in the area of Speech Pathology, with a minor in Education. She later earned a Master of Arts Degree in 2002 from St. John’s University in Special Education. Veronica worked for 6 years for the New York City Board of Education, providing speech intervention for a wide range of developmentally and mentally challenged children and adolescents, including those with autism, emotional disturbances, Down syndrome, and multiple disabilities. She also provided developmental and behavioral therapy for early intervention students with developmental delays in a home based setting for 6 years. In conjunction with these services, Veronica provided family training to parents and siblings of her students. She has been working as a developmental therapist for the last two years since moving to North Carolina. Areas of expertise include language development and augmentative/alternative communication. Veroinica is licensed as a Parents as Teachers parent educator. She believes in routine based teaching experiences and incorporating learning into play and floor time.
Veronica has recently returned to work after having her frist child. She lives with her husband and son in Holly Springs. Her hobbies include traveling, reading, and cooking.
