Nina Polizzano, B.A., Developmental Therapist

Nina earned her B.A. in Psychology in 1981 from Montclair State University in New Jersey. In 1998 Nina became certified as a Teacher of the Handicapped after completing her graduate coursework in special education, with a concentration in developmental disabilities from William Paterson University in New Jersey. She has teaching experience with toddlers through 4th grade in 2 community schools. Nina taught in a first grade resource room during her internship, as main teacher in public preschool special needs classes for 3 years, and in early intervention for 4 years. She was also the director of a community school which offered classes for toddlers - 5th grade. She has a total of 10 years experience working with families facing challenges including: autism, Down syndrome, fragile X syndrome, PDD, apraxia, prematurity, sensory integration, cerebral palsy, and behavioral challenges. Nina prides herself on having the skills to trigger change in the way children relate to their environment. She incorporates sign language, floor time play, songs for transitions, fun activities, and playful, loving encouragement to shape daily successes, one step at a time.

Nina and her husband, Steve, enjoy a blended family of 5 grown kids (2 girls and 3 boys). She is newly married and newly planted in North Carolina.  Nina loves discovering unique treasures at estate sales and consignment shops. She bikes, walks and swims for exercise. Her favorite travel adventures are in Rome, Venice and the medieval villages of Umbria.
