Kimberly Kingston, B.A., Developmental Therapist

Kimberly graduated in 2007 from the College of Charleston, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Biology and a Minor in Psychology.  Kimberly has 7 years experience working as a Special Programs Instructor for the City of Raleigh Parks and Recreation Department. She is currently directing an after school program through the City of Raleigh for young adults with developmental delays.  She also assists in recreation activities for adults with special needs. Kimberly previously assisted at the Frankie Lemmon School and Developmental Center. She also taught at the Pediatric Therapy Associates Early Steps Learning Preschool for young children with special needs.  She currently teaches a social skills class for children four to ten years old.  The focus of this group is functional communication, effective problem solving skills and social interaction with peers and adults. Kimberly will also soon be credentialed as a Parents as Teachers Educator. 

Together these opportunities have allowed her to gain experience with all ages from infants to adults.  She is familiar with age appropriate activities and truly enjoys working with children.  She has worked with children with a variety of diagnoses including Down syndrome, Autism Spectrum Disorders, language delays, cerebral palsy, Williams syndrome, Cornelia de Lange syndrome, prematurity, sensory integration and other developmental delays.

Kimberly effectively engages children using a combination of floor time, imaginative play, sign language, music, and sensory input activities.  She believes that play is the key to learning and development for children. Family is very important to her and she encourages family interaction during Developmental Therapy.

In her free time Kimberly enjoys hiking, camping, and spending time with loved ones.
