Christine Walters, M.S., Ed.S./ Special Education, Developmental Therapist

Christine received a Bachelor of Arts in 1997 from Radford University in the area of Special Education with teacher certification in Mental Retardation K-12. She began working in 1997 for Franklin County Public Schools in Virginia, where she provided education to elementary students with moderate to severe and profound disabilities including autism, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, and multiple disabilities. She received a Master of Science in 2002 from Radford University in the area of Special Education with teacher certification in Learning Disabilities and Emotional Disturbances K-12. She also received her Educational Specialist degree in 2005 from Virginia Tech in the area of Special Education Administration. In 2004, Christine moved to North Carolina and began working for Wake County Public Schools as a Behavior Specialist.  Working in that entity, she provides behavior consultation and training to teachers and students in the school setting. Christine’s areas of interest include sensory integration, augmentative and total communication systems, assistive technology, ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis), sign language, behavioral training, and natural environment teaching.

As a developmental therapist, Christine works with children ages birth through five with various sensory and behavioral needs as well as children with global developmental delays. Christine also has extensive knowledge of infants with cerebral palsy, brain injury, microcephaly, hydrocephaly, and various developmental delays including those affecting motor functioning, sensory, vision, and feeding.
