Alicia Mercer, COTA/L

Alicia is a certified occupational therapy assistant with 20+ years of experience.  She has worked with individuals with a variety of diagnoses in a variety of settings.  Before joining the Pediatric Therapy Associates team, Alicia worked for a non-profit preschool serving children with special needs such as autism, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, learning disabilities, sensory processing disorders, ADD/ADHD, and cerebral vascular accidents.  Alicia has also worked with adult and pediatric traumatic brain injured and spinal cord injured patients in a community re-entry program as well as in acute and rehabilitation hospitals. She has special interests and expertise in the areas of sensory integration (customizing “sensory diets” as needed), fine motor skills, and feeding.  She has specific training in the The Alert Program, Interactive Metronome, Handwriting Without Tears, and the M.O.R.E Program (for feeding), in addition to receiving staff training in Therapeutic Listening.  Alicia is trained in the CIMT (Constraint Induced Movement Therapy) Protocol.  She utilizes this protocol during “one day intensives” and as an instructor at Pediatric Therapy Associates’ yearly summer camp for children who have had a CVA or Brachial Plexus Injury.

In her free time, Alicia loves to run, kayak, read, and spend time with her family.  She provides services in our Wake Forest and Raleigh locations.
