Judith N. Garrett, Ph.D.

Judy is a certified speech-language pathologist (CCC-SLP) who has worked for Pediatric Therapy Associates since 2003.  Her academic background includes a Bachelor’s Degree in Speech and Hearing Handicapped, a Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology, and a Doctorate in Early Intervention/Early Childhood Special Education with a minor in Developmental Psychology.  She also studied at the Elizabeth Gaskell College School of Speech Therapy in Manchester, England.  Judy has over thirty years of experience in pediatric intervention provided in hospital, home-based, special school and clinical settings.  Prior to coming to North Carolina, Judy was the Director of Language Training and the Director of Early Intervention and Home Health Services at the National Children’s Center in Washington, DC.  She also held full-time faculty positions at George Mason University and Arizona State University West where she conducted research and taught graduate courses in communication development and disorders, early intervention, special education and early childhood education.  Judy is an author of books and articles related to young children with disabilities.  She has extensive clinical experience in addressing a variety of communication impairments including disorders of early language development, disorders of speech sound production/apraxia, oral motor/feeding difficulties, cleft palate, multiple disabilities, and global developmental delays.  Judy is credentialed as an Infant Toddler and Family Specialist and as a Certification Reviewer for the North Carolina Infant Toddler Program.  Her areas of interest are activity-based intervention and family collaboration.
